Recently an Italian cruise ship, Costa Concordia ran aground near the rocky island of Giglio off the coast of Tuscany, sending water pouring through a 160-foot gash in the hull. Most of the passengers complained that the crew failed to give evacuation notice until the ship was already dangerously tilted so that even lowering the lifeboats were dangerous. Most of the passengers aboard were quickly evacuated but some 40 went missing. Sometimes an event like this can struck a similar chord that... Continue reading ...
Addressing calamities and vulnerabilities
Addressing calamities and vulnerabilities
Edison Macusi
Today the term most abused is climate change. Every time there is a disaster somewhere in the world, people in authority or even those with little knowledge always claim and quickly run to this term. When the disaster struck Cagayan De Oro, Iligan City and Dumaguete City down South in Mindanao, and the Visayas, people were quick to say that it was climate change.
However, the real culprit and the real story behind this destruction was m... Continue reading ...
Women standing up
Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil.
Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on.
For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence. Proverbs 4:14-17 (NKJV) There is a prophecy in the Bible that shows women shall rise up during these days not only to liberate themselves from the deception that the devil has hea... Is there not a cause?
There is a current buzz about how former president Arroyo has taken a dramatic props to elicit mercy from the poor and the generally unsuspecting population of the country. Props, sickness and disease cannot be an excuse to face accountability of the electoral fraud, the fertilizer scam and the ZTE scam. Corruption cannot be excused after someone has done it already. This is like punching your neighbour in the stomach and then telling him that it was just a joke. Well, whether it was a joke, ... Continue reading ...
The Discipline of the Father
Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. Job 5:17
Blessed is the man you discipline, O Lord, the man you teach from your
law; you grant him relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for
the wicked. Psalm 94:12-13
Many times in our lives we face adversity and we face the rebukes of
others as we go in our daily living. It could be our boss, our employer
in our jobs or it could be our mother scolding us for not taking the
garbage outside... Continue reading ...
What and Who
Already, many
candidates and major media are moving into full swing for next year’s
elections. We must first understand what must be done before we can
identify who can best help do it. Perhaps as important as any time since
our founding, those who believe in divine providence and eternal
principles must become well-informed and actively involved in the
political process. Christians, pastors, and all church leaders must
totally reject the lie that “separation of church and sta... Continue reading ...
Be sure your sin will find you out
Integrity is a word that few treasures these days. True to the prophecy
that these are great and dreadful times, many leaders who want to extol
the virtues of power over wisdom and integrity have mired themselves to
the past. As Moses wrote, those who fail to obey the Lord’s command will
“be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will
find you out” (Num 32:23). Rigging the elections is like creating an
artificial monopoly in the market. Once this monopoly is b... Continue reading ...
Surigao mining attacks, a dastardly act of cowardice!
Mining and tourism are
part of the sunshine business that the Philippines should look into. We
have to wake up that fishing and agriculture while basic and needed
cannot sustain our country towards industrialisation. While outsourcing
continues to bless the Philippines with a generated income of about
12-13 billion dollars and rising to 100 billion dollars by 2020
(according to estimates), we cannot rely on putting all our economic
hopes in one basket alone. In fact this is the reason ... Continue reading ...
Is freedom of expression in art as indispensable as its purpose: reviewing Mideo Cruz’s ‘Poleteismo’
The
shocking art exhibit of Mideo Cruz at CCP which took us all by surprise
is only the tip of the ice-berg of what went wrong in the modern
definition of art and freedom of expression. Some think that that art
comes from a natural desire to express oneself through drawing,
painting, sculpture, and installation of different pieces of articles to
compose one’s opinion or one’s viewpoint. Wikipedia defines art as: “Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often... Continue reading ...
Lola Meding and her unwavering faith
Blessed
is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in
the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.
He
shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth
its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever
he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore

Is there something bad with Jerome’s broadcast?
I was appalled by what I
heard and seen in the Inquirer reports concerning the alleged attack on
the hard-hitting radio man this week in his broadcasting lair in
Bulanao. If true, this is a sign that the Governor could not take the
punches on the air. Criticism of officials by media men and his own
people should not be seen as curtailing the works of the governor but
rather should be seen in the light of what more can be done. Inside big
private companies they have supervisors or gover... Continue reading ...
The boundaries of reason
I was happy to learn that more than 40 Filipinos reacted to my story "When God closes doors" which was published by the Philippine Daily Iquirer in its Global Pinoy page on Easter Sunday. Majority of those who posted online comments were believers while four were either skeptics or outright atheists. It always gives me a pleasant feeling to know that people are reading me, regardless of whether they agree with my views or not. We can not expect all people to agree with us all the time.
But on... Continue reading ...
When God closes doors
This is a true story, my story ...I went home from work that night with a heavy heart. I had just lost my job as a subeditor with the Saudi Gazette in Jeddah where I had worked for the past six years. I was 62. Losing my job at the twilight years of my life with an eight-year-old daughter and a wife to look after was surreal.I didn’t expect the axe to fall too soon. The year before, I was named one of the company’s 12 outstanding employees and, despite the Saudi government’s program to ... Continue reading ...
The death of a murderer and terrorist
Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; Romans 13:1-3Today marks the death of... Continue reading ...
Earthquakes, roaring seas, rumors of war and the last days
As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against na... Continue reading ...
The redemption of Egypt draws near
“In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord near its border.
And it will become a sign and a
witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to
the Lord because of oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a
Champion, and He will deliver them.
Thus the Lord will make Himself
known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day. They
will even worship with sacrifice and offe... Continue reading ...
"TRIUMPH of DEMOCRACY" In EGYPT?

Special bulletin
It is easy to fall in with the euphoria that now has taken hold in the aftermath of Hosni Mubarak's resignation on Feb. 11th. Already people in America and in the Middle East are exulting over the "triumph of democracy" in Egypt. So it is perhaps not popular for some like me, to sound the alarm bell. Doing so does not mean I applaud the Mubarak government and its thirty years in power. It does mean that I see plenty of dangers ahead which need to be addressed in a realistic way lest Egypt beco... Bringing hope this christmas
I
have been fascinated by the rumours and confusion that distraught many
in the seminal decision of the Supreme Court concerning the acquittal of
Hubert Webb and his colleagues on the Vizconde Massacre in June 1991.
Although not expected, this decision actually helps reframe the case and
digs deeper than merely speculations on the truth of who actually did
the crime. Solving this case requires forgiveness and looking at a
different angle on who did and masterminded the gruesome murder ... Continue reading ...
Top ten Gay Marriage False Facts
When one judge overturned the will of more then seven million Californians last week in Perry vs. Schwarzenegger,
he listed 80 supposed “findings of fact” (FF) as evidence that
Proposition 8 violates the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States
Constitution. Many of those 80 findings are not facts at all. They’re
lies or distortions.
Before we address the top ten false “facts” asserted by Judge Vaughn Walker, there is one real fact in his opinion that defeats the entire case f... Continue reading ...
Living in the unexpected places
I
have been in the Philippines for more than one year now, doing things
that I thought I would not be doing or being in the places that I have
not envisioned to stay for a long period. In this year, I have pointed
out in our special bulletin (Understanding 2010 and the coming elections
series) that there is a rebirth that is coming upon this nation. Just
as any birth will be painful and messy at first, it was the same with
the new administration that has been ruling this country for mo... Continue reading ...
Hope in the midst of crisis part 2
Last week we have discussed that crises
come to try us and reveal the foundations that we have. Every person
in this world will face crisis in varying degrees and so will every
tribe, nation and organizations. How we face the trials will determine
the outcome of our destiny. Just as Israel’s first test was to either
believe the Lord in the midst of trying circumstances or abandon their
faith and return to slavery so will every one of us. When Pharaoh’s
army pursued them in the Red ... Continue reading ...
Hope in the midst of Crisis
There is hope amidst the cacophony of
confusion and shaking that is happening everywhere. The event that
transpired last Monday (August 23), the infamous bus hostage taking
at the Quirino grandstand that was watched around the world was
supposed to be a showcase whether Noynoy and most Filipinos would
value the life of their human fellows or allow themselves to be bound
by the temporal convenience that has taken root upon almost everyone
in this planet. Sadly, the 11 hour struggle that sta... Continue reading ...
Noynoy Aquino: the unlikely savior of the Philippine republic
I kept silence during the inauguration
of Pres. Noynoy Aquino, watching and praying that indeed we have not made
a mistake in choosing this unlikely candidate. I have prophesied before
in my article, “The birth of a New Philippines” that appeared in May
and quickly taken on by the broadcast media and aired that we are living
in a new chapter of history.
Indeed, one can hardly recognize when history had come and favoured
the most unlikely person to be the president because we were... Continue reading ...
The birth of a new Philippines
In the coming days we will witness the
rebirth of the Philippines–our prayers for our country will determine
whether the outcome will be for good or for evil. I have been in a

True political leadership
Elections are highly stressful activities and they can kill you if
you have heart problems for many unexpected turn of events. This could
be as simple as people bringing their solicitation letters at your gate
and asking for money or a true health threat such as the unbearable
scorching heat under the sun when campaigning on the road. Others could
be as simple as irritations from others who continuously hurl a barrage
of accusations against us on the radio or on the TV. Politics may see... Continue reading ...

The times in the wilderness
Israel was not quickly transported to heaven after believing God and
being “baptized” in the Red sea. She was thrust rather to walking the
great distance from that point on to the wilderness. This experience is
really a means of God to get their hearts truly aligned to His mind for
the calling that He has called them. This journey could have not lasted
very long, it could have been simply an 11 days journey and then to the
Promised Land, but because of t... Continue reading ...
Justice for the Ampatuan victims
“To do righteousness and justice is desired by the Lord rather
than sacrifice.” Prov 21:3
There was incredible silence after the Massacre of the victims of the
Ampatuan clan, until now, swift justice has not been served, and it
seems indeed that justice has been delayed. Where are we at this time?
Why do we not want to keep silent over this debacle? Are we not being
partial that because the poor stands at the door like a pauper and now
we disengage ourselves from their affairs? We h... Continue reading ...
The religious right and the 2010 elections
“There seems to be a way for a man but the end thereof is death,”
Solomon wrote, and it seems that every man since tried to put up a
solution to solve every problem. There is a subtle thought, that just
one chance, just one idea, just one opportune time, and I will make it big. Like Lucifer, these
dreamers defile the sanctuary, use the name of God, their calling and
then trade it for the goods of the world. Every dream, goal and motive
which is not aligned with the Word of God, and ... Continue reading ...
Understanding 2010 and the coming election part 1
The year 2010 is fraught with foreboding presence of either God or
the devil in the election. Our destiny hangs in the balance, and it
hangs on the captain we will choose to steer the Philippine leader ship
to either greater bondage or the freedom from it. This ship, which
I have discussed in my books “Freedom from religious bondage” (Bringing
down friarism), and also in “Restorers of the breach” (Contending for
the dream) symbolizes the present leadership and

So, Whose Test Is This? By Francis Frangipane
I think most of us do not
grasp the degree of suffering and devastation that has hit Haiti. We
think because the front-page news about Haiti has diminished that
Haiti's need has also diminished, but it has not. The urgency of people
being buried alive has been replaced with the urgency of a million and a
half people without homes or shelter.
To put this disaster into
perspective, recall the terrifying Sumatran tsunami that killed 230,000
people in December 2004. Eighteen nations were... Continue reading ...

Leadership roles in the 21st century: helping others see and take action

Updates on the Ifugao CYF leadership seminar
As some of you may already know, we went to Kiangan, Ifugao for the

moving forward and I could find no other encouragement than that my

and women wants to do ministry and 95% of them in worship/music area.
This is not a coincidence because it is during these dull, boisterous

Praise you in the storm: typhoon Ramil is dead
In an amazing twist of destiny, we have been spared from
another possibly deadly typhoon attack but praise the Lord for as we
have all been praying, God stopped Ramil in the sea. Can God really
stop a typhoon, much less a superstrong one in the radar of weather
forecasters? Yes, that truth is easier realized than anything when we
think that He is both just, merciful and loving God. God can stop any
percolating typhoon, windstorm, thunderstorm or even tornado. Even at
the risk of being ... Continue reading ...
Understanding the Onslaught of "Ondoy" and "Pepeng"
Given all the prevailing issues that have come due to the
floods that has brought our country to its knees, there is only one
sure solution that everyone of us need to understand. We must build our
houses on the Rock, that is plain, stable and solid ground that none
can push away. This Rock is not dead, nor is it of volcanic origin or
“earthly” as many geologists would mistake. It is not. We have to see
the perspectives that is upon us now by asking three salient questions,
1) Wh... Continue reading ...
Above all powers: bracing for typhoon Pepeng
In one of the most prophetic songs I have ever heard, Michael W. Smith’s Above All declares the majesty and power of God over the creation and dominion of man and all created beings. God’s power is really above all authority, above all powers, above all kings, above all thrones and dominions-He truly is the epitome, the one above all things. If Jesus is then King above all, what is the question? This is the struggle of all believers during times of crisis and during trials. Can God be tru... Continue reading ...
Typhoon "Ondoy" and its spiritual significance part 2
I was wondering if there were signs to be observed and things that we have overlooked why we have not known before hand the magnitude of the flood that will be coming. If we could have known then we could have prepared very well. This in essence is the conclusion of many of those who were surprised of the flooding that took away millions of pesos of infrastructure damages and more than a hundred lives. Because we thought that PAGASA forecasts are not worth learning, most of us were caught una... Continue reading ...

Typhoons and hurricanes represent one of the most potent forces of nature that could ever bring disaster on earth. With an average of 20 typhoons passing all over the country, there is no doubt that it takes a great faith and patience to truly build something of value and wonder in our country specially in Luzon and parts of Vi... The coming glory to the church
My wife suddenly had uncontrollable spasms in her stomach on the
midnight of September 5. It begun last September 3 during the night
after we just finished celebrating the 2nd birthday of our toddler
Germane Amber. We thought that her spasms were simple stomach aches. My
wife also told me that it was different already because our first child
was born premature at 8 months last September 3, 2007 in Davao.
Her labor of spasms were unknown to her because when Germane was

The Health Scare industry
One of the questions we face when trials come upon our ways is whether God is really with us all the way or He has simply left us to suffer alone.
