And
hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into
our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. (Rom 5:5 NIV)
Christmas is undoubtedly the biggest celebration in the Philippines.
Even those who cannot afford to buy anything by virtue of their poverty
are predisposed to go into debt just to have a table full of presents
and food this Christmas. It is not sin to celebrate Christmas nor does
the pagan practice formerly associated with it have anything to do ... Continue reading ...
Bringing hope this christmas
I
have been fascinated by the rumours and confusion that distraught many
in the seminal decision of the Supreme Court concerning the acquittal of
Hubert Webb and his colleagues on the Vizconde Massacre in June 1991.
Although not expected, this decision actually helps reframe the case and
digs deeper than merely speculations on the truth of who actually did
the crime. Solving this case requires forgiveness and looking at a
different angle on who did and masterminded the gruesome murder ... Continue reading ...
Faith brings hope part 2
Last
week we started sharing on the necessity of personally propagating the
gospel of Christ into all the world as the scale of darkness brings
scare and hopelessness into the hearts of many. The phrase “into all the
world” implies geographical, cultural, economic and global aspects of
propagating the Kingdom of God into all the world. There are however
some paradoxes in the world which certainly needs much study and
revelation from God. Our motivation in seeking others whom God ha... Continue reading ...
Faith brings hope part 1
There
are instances in our lives when we have almost given up on people that
we are trying to win for the Lord. Sometimes we also give up on our very
love ones who do not seem to change. We demand that people around us
conform to what we believe is right and true. Though we understand that
the truth should be known by everyone, it is not our responsibility to
change people. We do not claim to have that power to change others. What
we do claim is that we have the faith that overcomes th... Continue reading ...
Crisis and hope
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil (Hebrews 6:19).
During
the last election, the superficial message of hope won the ballots. We
put in to the highest office a man whom we barely knew except for his
family name which became tantamount for hope among many Filipinos. We
hung our hopes on him because we believed that his platform is a
platform of righteousness and truth. Hope has become the highest
commodity in t... Continue reading ...
Hope in the midst of crisis part 2
Last week we have discussed that crises
come to try us and reveal the foundations that we have. Every person
in this world will face crisis in varying degrees and so will every
tribe, nation and organizations. How we face the trials will determine
the outcome of our destiny. Just as Israel’s first test was to either
believe the Lord in the midst of trying circumstances or abandon their
faith and return to slavery so will every one of us. When Pharaoh’s
army pursued them in the Red ... Continue reading ...
Hope in the midst of Crisis
There is hope amidst the cacophony of
confusion and shaking that is happening everywhere. The event that
transpired last Monday (August 23), the infamous bus hostage taking
at the Quirino grandstand that was watched around the world was
supposed to be a showcase whether Noynoy and most Filipinos would
value the life of their human fellows or allow themselves to be bound
by the temporal convenience that has taken root upon almost everyone
in this planet. Sadly, the 11 hour struggle that sta... Continue reading ...
