Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; Romans 13:1-3

Today marks the death of fugitive Osama Bin Laden which dealt a mighty blow to the cause of Jihadist terrorists who wants to destroy the present economic and government structure of the world. No matter the denial of Arab terrorists and thinkers about the impact of Bin Laden’s death to the morale of their terror networks, his death slowed down, brought a crack, and ripped the dreams of their world terror organization.

The man who brought fear to the world’s democratic leaders and their governments is finally buried in the sea; while the democratic governments will finally get a reprieve and be justified for their right actions against terrorism even if some sectors were against them during the fight. Now is the time therefore to continue to increase the funding of anti-terror networks and intelligence gathering so that the momentum gained from this major victory will not be lost and bring dullness. It is just right that we be not lulled into complacency and still be watchful in prayers and in our military about the capabilities of the terrorists in bringing wreck to our nation.

Just as Jesus is the Prince of Peace who comes to give order and harmony to the nations, Satan is called the destroyer (Revelation 9:11) who comes to bring death and war on mankind. The righteous however are not to flee when wars come but to stand their ground and fight the enemy because the “wicked flee when no one pursues but the righteous are bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1 NKJV). In Proverbs 29:1-2, we are told that those who harden their neck after much “reproof will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.” Usama Bin Laden was a truly hard necked son who did not pay attention to his “father” or his “mother”, he developed a strong notion that for Islam to proliferate, violence and bombings will be inevitable. The demise of the world’s superpower is the demise of freedom in his mind.

But his violent end in a heavily fortified private compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan tells us that this person is not at all invincible and the fact that he was killed near the military academy of Pakistan also tells us the real extent of Pakistani “cooperation” with the allies against terrorism. His death marks the beginning of the retreat of terrorism in all the major cities of the world.

In addition, this is certainly a remarkable operation where no commando was killed during the main operation and attacked the fortress of Usama Bin Laden who had eluded apprehension for a long time. But certainly because of the resolve of the American and allied security forces on the ground to continue the fight until the last terrorist is put to jail or buried on the ground, the enemy today is on the run. Truly it was a great job that allows our freedom to flourish; today we have many people that truly rejoice because the wicked man who threatened to bring chaos to this world no longer lives. The cost of freedom is never cheap as attested by the sacrifice of lives in the frontiers and the security made by our armed forces in our countries. Freedom however is essential for true community to flourish. It is needed for true business, governance and real life to flourish; this too could be a reason why many Arabs migrate to Europe or the West in a quest for real freedom which they seldom enjoy in their Islamic based nations.

Where there is no real freedom, people are depressed and oppression is a big problem, including religious oppression. When there is no real press freedom and the separation between the church and the state are absent, the potential for religious bigotry and authoritarianism is not far. This is one of the greatest contributions of Christianity because it birthed democracy and the separation between church and state followed from it; this then allowed the free development of business, education, government, and media. Today we know that “rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same.” The present governments and systems of this world are there to keep peace and order, if we do the right thing, if we follow what is right then we will have peace.

Indeed “he, that is often being reproved but hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy”. Just as all terrorists are stubborn and hard necked people whose real agenda is to force everyone to their beliefs and enslave them to fear, there are many people today who still refuse the voice of God in their conscience when He calls them. If you get more stubborn every time you are corrected, one day you will be crushed and never recover. You can run from people and circumstances but you cannot run forever from God. There is freedom in submitting to God and to surrendering our lives to His will. He is not looking for the wise and the noble but those who are willing to give themselves to Him. Jesus calls everyone, the weary and those who are oppressed, He still says the same,

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Finally, we should rejoice that our enemy is gone, but be prepared to take all the others who are still at large, those enemies of freedom who continues to operate in cells abroad. As President Benigno Aquino III says this death of Usama Bin Laden "marks a signal defeat for the forces of extremism and terrorism'' and “represents the end of one man to stoke the fires of sectarian hatred and to promote terrorism on a scale unprecedented in the history of mass murder.”
