Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil.
Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on.
For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence. Proverbs 4:14-17 (NKJV)

There is a prophecy in the Bible that shows women shall rise up during these days not only to liberate themselves from the deception that the devil has heaped upon them but also from the works of the enemy in the lives of the people. This is how Leila De Lima had been pursuing justice and righteousness which essentially puts enmity between her and the devil’s works. It was the woman who was deceived by the devil and therefore, it will also be the redeemed woman who will put this enemy to flight. This does not mean that Adam did not sin but he acted in the full knowledge that it was wrong to eat from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Therefore he erred greatly; on the other hand, women, when they know it is wrong to do something, they think twice before doing it.

The Lord has truly put enmity between the serpent and the woman and her offspring or the things that she will give birth in her spirit that are righteous and true will crush the serpent’s head. There will also be many men who will be standing for truth, justice and righteousness but the ministry of the women who will be liberated from deception will bring a very stark contrast of leadership and unique abilities that we have rarely seen. In fact, in my stays abroad, there are more women pastors and leaders I have seen, there are more women intercessors standing in the gap, there are more women doing works of compassion than there are men standing against the works of the enemy. Just consider these statistics, there are more women in the churches today than at any other time in the history of the church whether it’s a German church, a Hong Kong church or a Filipino church…there are more women standing for Christ.

True leaders are not passive watchers like spectators in the boxing match of Pacquiao and Marquez. True leaders take the grit and drive away the stone to its place. Because a woman took the initiative to nail down and put to justice another woman who was walking in deception, we see a contrast of the outcome of their lives. In the past weeks we have just seen how a real “Filipino woman of strength” stood determined to bring justice and righteousness for the Filipino people when all the senators and congressmen kept their mouth shut watched the events as it unfolded, determined to do nothing until the event took its own course. This is called passivity.

One presumably cheated her way to gain a position and power, condoned corruption, promised many good things to the people but delivered so few results. She even went to every big church to be prayed over so that she will serve justly but then because there was no real repentance and she loves money more than true service, the result today is a reaping of the whirlwind. Many leaders are just deceived, they think that they could go around the bush and everyone will just forgive them because the Filipino people are compassionate. This is not true, the people are waking up that justice demands truth and righteousness more than a perverted sense of compassion. As Abraham Lincoln puts it, “you can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” Money can bribe the foolish and the naïve but not those with moral excellence, not those with vision for justice.

Justice has its own time and it will always come. Solomon wrote that “As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor” (Ecclesiastes 10:1), those who think they can get away with their folly easily will soon find about that justice has come and there is a day of reckoning. Again Solomon admonishes us to pursue justice and righteousness at all cost, “Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil” (Ecclesiastes 8:11 NASB). The bold and brazen ones who proclaim with their lives that they can do evil and nothing will happen to them is a farce. Although the evil worker may do a hundred more crimes because he does not fear God, their days will not always lengthen and they will not always linger on earth forever. The day of reckoning will come and for those who did not repent and continue to pursue their evil, the hand of the judge has numbered their days. It is for this reason that we must avoid evil at all times. That we must “not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on” (Proverbs 4:14-15 NKJV).

Deborah, who called herself a mother of Israel and who brought justice and righteousness in Ancient Israel did not wink her eyes to the injustice and oppression done by Canaan on her people. She stood for what is right and pursued justice until all the enemies of her country were destroyed. She wrote this of herself, “In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the roads were abandoned; travelers took to winding paths. Village life in Israel ceased, ceased until I Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel” (Judges 5:6-7). To be a real mother to someone does not have to mean that you only physically give birth to a person but it also means that you guide and strengthen them towards the fulfillment of their purpose or destiny.

Essentially, former President Aquino did this when she stood unabashedly for truth, justice and righteousness during the first EDSA revolution. Having no political degree or experience in politics did not deter her from standing up and taking the helms of the government from a deposed dictator. With trials and tribulations in every side, with perils from evil men whose interest is in their selfish gain, she advanced and weathered them all to plant a flourishing democracy untainted by corruption or scandal.

Such moral integrity could only come from faith, because faith has a vision that is far from selfish gain and free from the dross of corruption. Faith has a real substance because it is the anchor of the soul, and leaders who have faith anchor the nation to truth. For only truth could be the foundation of a lasting society and a lasting democracy. Apart from truth we cannot establish a nation that will stand to the end and able to overcome the greed of man. Only the search for Truth can set a nation free, set its people free to fulfill their destiny. Today, we find a similar story in the life of Leila De Lima who stood resolutely on grounds that justice and righteousness should reign in this country. Such bold proclamations are destined to cause ripples in history, it was like Martin Luther standing up against the lies propagated by popish doctrines.
