Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil.
Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on.
For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence. Proverbs 4:14-17 (NKJV)
Justice has its own time and it will always come. Solomon wrote that “As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor” (Ecclesiastes 10:1), those who think they can get away with their folly easily will soon find about that justice has come and there is a day of reckoning. Again Solomon admonishes us to pursue justice and righteousness at all cost, “Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil” (Ecclesiastes 8:11 NASB). The bold and brazen ones who proclaim with their lives that they can do evil and nothing will happen to them is a farce. Although the evil worker may do a hundred more crimes because he does not fear God, their days will not always lengthen and they will not always linger on earth forever. The day of reckoning will come and for those who did not repent and continue to pursue their evil, the hand of the judge has numbered their days. It is for this reason that we must avoid evil at all times. That we must “not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on” (Proverbs 4:14-15 NKJV).
Deborah, who called herself a mother of Israel and who brought justice and righteousness in Ancient Israel did not wink her eyes to the injustice and oppression done by Canaan on her people. She stood for what is right and pursued justice until all the enemies of her country were destroyed. She wrote this of herself, “In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the roads were abandoned; travelers took to winding paths. Village life in Israel ceased, ceased until I Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel” (Judges 5:6-7). To be a real mother to someone does not have to mean that you only physically give birth to a person but it also means that you guide and strengthen them towards the fulfillment of their purpose or destiny.
Essentially, former President Aquino did this when she stood unabashedly for truth, justice and righteousness during the first EDSA revolution. Having no political degree or experience in politics did not deter her from standing up and taking the helms of the government from a deposed dictator. With trials and tribulations in every side, with perils from evil men whose interest is in their selfish gain, she advanced and weathered them all to plant a flourishing democracy untainted by corruption or scandal.
Such moral integrity could only come from faith, because faith has a vision that is far from selfish gain and free from the dross of corruption. Faith has a real substance because it is the anchor of the soul, and leaders who have faith anchor the nation to truth. For only truth could be the foundation of a lasting society and a lasting democracy. Apart from truth we cannot establish a nation that will stand to the end and able to overcome the greed of man. Only the search for Truth can set a nation free, set its people free to fulfill their destiny. Today, we find a similar story in the life of Leila De Lima who stood resolutely on grounds that justice and righteousness should reign in this country. Such bold proclamations are destined to cause ripples in history, it was like Martin Luther standing up against the lies propagated by popish doctrines.
